Cloud based solutions can certainly have their benefits from a financial and maintenance standpoint. Companies do not have to own their own hardware or infrastructure because they’d be able to pay on a per usage basis.
From an IT Service Management/Assurance (ITSM/A) perspective, there are problems and concerns:
- Not all solutions are available via cloud-hosted SaaS
- The needed bandwidth could be unstable or not easily available
- Organizations may not have the desired control over data. The security concerns may include location of servers, data storage, and controls for data access.
Cloud-based SaaS applications continue to gain momentum in the broader IT landscape and will certainly become a factor in ITSM/A.
